Advanced Reporting
Advanced Reporting may not available in all accounts. It is part of the Elite bundle and can be purchased as an add-on.
To check if this new tool is part of your bundle, consult your Account Manager.
Using this feature, administrators can:
- Create custom multi-table data joins
- Customize tabular reports
- Utilize amazing dashboard capabilities like spatial and geographic visualization, relationship diagrams, tree maps with hierarchies and Gantt charts
- Set permission and restrict data access
- Share with others in the organization and enable them to receive scheduled reports and dashboards in their email
- Export reports and dashboards in CSV, PDF, Excel, Image formats and more.
The advanced reporting tool does not grant you access to the snapshot Data warehouse through a 3rd party BI tool. For that, you need to have a Data warehouse add-on or specific bundle. Check with your Account Manager for more details.
The Advanced Reporting feature is a reporting tool embedded in Trimble Unity Construct. For detailed information on getting started with Advanced Reporting, see Get Started in the Dundas online help.
To access the advanced reporting tool
- Click Reports. The Reports landing page is displayed.
- Click Advanced reporting.
The advanced reporting Home page is displayed.
After this, a new Advanced Reports folder will automatically be created on the Reports landing page. This folder will organize the reports you generate with this tool.

On any page in the advanced reporting tool, click Help in the main menu to open the documentation specific to the page you currently have open. The third-party documentation opens in a new window.
Connect to Data
- Add a data connection: Add a new connection to any data source and use it to display some data on a dashboard.
Analyze Data
- Create a metric set: A metric set allows you to select and analyze a set of data. Search for existing data by selecting an existing data structure or using a new data source.
- Create a time dimension: A time dimension can contain one or more levels to use when grouping and displaying data.
Create and View Content
- Create views (dashboards and reports): Design dashboards and reports and share with other users.
- Create a dashboard template: Define a common base or starting point from which to design dashboards.
- Create a report: Design a multi-page or paginate report. You can specify report properties such as layout and spacing and add items to the report.
- Use different view modes: View dashboards and reports in different modes like View, Sandbox View and Edit.
Share and Collaborate
- Check in, check out and auto saving: To facilitate collaboration on projects, a check in / check out model is used with items such as data connectors, data cubes, dashboards and more.
- Work with projects: All the work that you do occurs within the context of a current or active project, which allows multiple people to collaborate on its files.
- Share or export your work: Share a dashboard, report, or other view as a link or export it to other formats such as Excel, CSV, Image, PDF, and PowerPoint.
- Send notifications (alerts): Notifications offer a way to send reminders, alerts, or the latest data based on a schedule or under certain conditions.
- Add notes (annotations): A note (or annotation) is a comment that is attached to a data point and displayed on a data visualization.
- Add data annotations: A data annotation (measure correction) is a change to a measure value in a metric set, which is then also marked with a comment in visualizations like a regular note or annotation.
- Edit File and folder properties: View and edit the properties associated with a selected file or folder.
Consolidate and Modify Data
- Add a data cube: Add a new data cube and use it to integrate data from different sources, transform the data, and produce a reusable data model with optional data storage capabilities.

The embedded reporting tool that allows you to create, view, and execute dashboards and reports directly within Trimble Unity Construct without needing to log in to a separate system.
Page (area) where you will build your visualizations.
As soon as you check in a new file or an updated version, other users with access to the project can see and use it.
The easiest type of view to create, allowing you to simply place content where you want it, usually for display on a screen.
A modification or correction to a measure value in a metric set, which displays as a marked comment on your data visualizations. A data annotation involves actively making a change to a measure value within a metric set. Once the value is changed, the visualization is marked with a comment that functions much like a regular note.
Holds the information necessary to connect to a data source. Behind the scenes, items such as metric sets are auto-generated for you to have a complete data flow.
Multidimensional model of your data that consists of measures, hierarchies, and metadata such as formatting. The data warehouse stores the cube's output. There is always a cube behind a visualization and its metric set. A file or process used to integrate and transform data into a reusable data model. Trimble provides these data cubes natively using the Snapshot-DWH so no manual configuration is required.

How data flows in the system. Everything is ultimately modeled though cubes and visualized through metric sets.
When selecting rows or columns in a table visualization, or data points in a chart, some basic statistics of that data will appear in the status bar.
Lists all Project files for you to work with while you edit an item.
If you want to pin some views to the top (in a Favorites group), you can hover over the view and click the star icon in the top left corner.
Used to store items that are common to other projects and reusable. For example, a set of built-in maps, styles, and themes can be included as part of the global project.
Used for grouping data into rows and columns and setting up drill downs.
Switch between displaying tiles or a table listing more details using the icons near the top-right of the page.
A pre-built query and visualization combination. Selects a set of data from a data source or cube (data warehouse) to display, and performs analytic tasks on it such as grouping, sorting, filtering, and formula calculations. Every data visualization on a dashboard is powered by a metric set, which can be saved and reused across different dashboards to save time.
Every user typically also gets a personal project automatically, named My Project. This is the current project when you first log in. Best practice is to use this as your own workspace to create dashboards and other items for prototyping or quick analysis. Not typically used for production work.
A note is a comment that is attached directly to a specific data point and displayed on a data visualization.
Represents the other data in your metric set. (type a dollar sign ($) character in the formula bar. The inserted placeholder consists of the measure or hierarchy name enclosed between dollar sign characters (e.g., $Order Quantity$).
Located at the bottom of the main menu is used for everything related to your account including editing your profile. This is where you can switch between Managed Dashboards & Reports and Visual Data Discovery.
You typically work within one project at a time. All the work that you do occurs within the context of a current or active project, which allows users to collaborate on all its files including dashboards, data cubes, and more.
Lets you copy the contents of a source project or files (such as dashboards or data cubes) to a target project, with the option to also copy referenced files so that any dependencies are also part of the target project.
Lay out content into multiple pages with scrolling, ideal for saving to PDF and for printing. (Reports meant for displaying on your screen without much scrolling can usually be created using a dashboard.)
A tool used specifically for filtering data within your metric sets and visualizations.
The default data source used by the Advanced Reporting tool, allowing you access to your data warehouse information without needing to establish separate external connections.
When enabled, it makes it easy for you to align and leave consistent spacing between components.
Located at the bottom of the page. The status bar is also known as a 'taskbar'.
Beside the name of the item is a section for status messages.
A special type of dashboard used as a common base to establish consistent branding, backgrounds, and navigation menus across multiple dashboards.
A layout control that allows dashboards to be responsive, automatically adapting and resizing visual elements based on the user's available screen size or device.
Tokens are used to provide options for setting filters besides choosing specific data source values. All users can create custom tokens for themselves, but administrators can manage all tokens, including built-in tokens, or create new tokens for other users to use.
Once the view is checked in so that other users can see it, a 'thumbnail' preview image of the view is generated and shown on the corresponding tile.
A container for one or more date and time hierarchies that are based on the same calendar system, which you can use with any column of date values to group and explore by levels such as Year and Month. You can modify if needed (e.g., to add levels such as Hour if your data includes times of day).
Dashboards and reports are different types of 'views', which display data by combining multiple visualizations connected to metric sets.
Appears when moving the mouse over the zoom level controls on the right side of the status bar.
Display output such as “Chart”, “Graph”, “Bar”, etc.
Normally 100 percent but may be set up to scale automatically to fit your screen.
- Data Cubes: These serve as the foundational data layer. They integrate and transform raw data from the Snapshot-DWH into a reusable data model.
- Metric Sets: These act as the intermediate building blocks. A metric set is a combination of a pre-built data query and a specific visualization They pull their data directly from the data cubes.
- Dashboards: These act as the final presentation layer. Every data visualization that you place on a dashboard is powered by an underlying metric set. Because of this tiered relationship, you can build a metric set once and reuse that exact same query and visualization across multiple different dashboards.
- Note or annotation: A comment attached to a data point that displays on a data visualization.
- Data annotation or measure correction: A change made to a measure value in a metric set, which also marks the visualization with a comment like a regular note.
